Didn't hear your wicked words every day
And you used to be so sweet, I heard you say
That my love was an addiction
--Karma Chameleon, Culture Club
It's Friday and I'm feeling a bit cheeky. I'm also revising--November for me is NaNoRevMo. In the process I have discovered a bitter truth about myself . . .
I passionately, insanely, and irresponsibly, cherish, adore, and love, commas.
Today I celebrate that diminutive mark of punctuation, that Ivy League wannabe pauser, that impotent apostrophe, the humble comma.
Have a beautiful day, and don't forget to celebrate your favorite type of punctuation.
I love comma humor! Hahahahaha!!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I'm a comma lover too :-),

Commas are awesome. I love these :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, they're all right, I suppose; but what I really love is the semi-colon!! :-)
ReplyDeleteSigh. I love commas too. Way too much. Every person that has ever read anything of mine has said some variant of "Dude, you went a little crazy with the commas."
ReplyDeleteYes, well, It's like, I don't know, important for me.
Comma's are ok, but they can't hold a candle to the exclamation mark!! I mean, seriously! Look at it just standing there! So majestic!!
ReplyDeleteHave!a!nice!weekend!! :)
Clever post! Very funny! Commas are misused and abused all the time! Nothing irks me more than to see a misplaced or unused comma. Punctuation is important. Without it, people will often get the wrong message and then life becomes just a big run-on sentence and words mesh together in a meaningless incoherent rambling that nobody will understand and people will then think you are stupid because you don't make any sense and you become an outcast and an object of redicule and have no friends all because you left out the comma and people now think you want to eat grandma so punctuate it and start making sense people!
ReplyDeleteJust a pause in the wrong place can lose you friends and gain you enemies.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Julie. I love the Blizzard Fail. It reminds me of the scene in Addams Family where Wednesday asks if the cookies are made with real girl scouts. LOL
ReplyDeleteCommas. They are our friends and save us from many, many gaffes. (Even if losing one can occasionally be funny.)
Sometimes commas are my friends and sometimes they're my enemy. Depends on the day and my mood. It's really easy to misuse them. Great post. I enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteSadly, commas can be my biggest struggle sometimes. Thanks for the laugh!
ReplyDeleteCommas! Friend or foe? I am still working that out in my own life. Glad you've found your bliss with them!
ReplyDeleteThis was great! I can't believe that magazine cover made it to stands.
ReplyDeleteFunny Julie. Commas have been my ally for years in trying to hide my lack of grammar knowledge.
ReplyDeleteLooking at that last sentence, I am tempted to stick a comma in there somewhere.
Enjoy your weekend.
Hey, these are great! I'll do a link back from my blog! Thanks for the laughs.
ReplyDeleteDo people other than writers enjoy punctuation humor? I hope so. The em-dash is a favorite of mine. My husband always wants to know why I have a million of them :)
ReplyDeleteDig the Rachael Ray one!
ReplyDeleteyou are so funny!
ReplyDeletethanks for the lift!
Julie, you crack me up. That was awesome. Comma Sutra by far my favorite. Good luck with those impotent commas. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the comma sutra! :D
ReplyDeleteIn truth, I enjoyed all of it. I always appreciate the way you structure your posts-- with equal parts linear narrative and complete unpredictability. (No easy feat.)
Thanks for the laughs to start the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe comma is my new hero :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend!
This is a cool post, Julie. I love the comma sutra. One single comma can sometimes change the whole meaning of a sentence so commas must be GREAT!!
ReplyDelete"impotent apostrophe" -- *snort* hahahahahaaaa!!
ReplyDeleteI will never look at a comma the same way again :)
I, myself, seem to often have an illicit affair with the semicolon, which just sounds...wrong. And then, of course, the ellipsis gets angry and treats me to empty silence. :)
Just now getting to catch up with all your wonderful blogness!
How could I not love a post that begins with Boy George? And yes...I agree with you on punctuation. So many lives have been saved or lost because of it. /giggle.
ReplyDeleteI like the exclamation point and probably use it way too much! But I don't care, I like them!
ReplyDelete!!!
LOL! Yep, I'm a sucker for commas too... And semi-colons. Those are my real addiction.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Those are great. Love the comma sutra!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! Hopped over from Tremp's blog. :)
